So yes - I think I melted the remote solenoid. Quick fix, I'm using the AC Delco F903 solenoid - about $22. I need to do some research on the concept of this remote solenoid, even though I put it all together I do not know how it works, or why it has a benefit. Once again I must praise this forum, even though I did not have the time to wait for a response, I'm sure one of you would have come to help. I was able to do a quick search, and pulled up my old thread from 5 years ago, - I'll post it here just to add a little value to this thread. Heading over to Ocean City for the car show, leaving soon. It's a good 2 1/2 hour drive. Should shake out the old Firebird well.
