I've got everything done except this little hang-up:
I swapped out my 68 400 in my 68 Firebird for a 70 350.
The power steering and alternator are bolted up. But due to the difference in the 68 small nose, and the 70 longer nose on the water pump, the pulley alignment is OFF OFF OFF! Everything lines up with the crank pulley as it should. But the water pump pulley is too far forward; the power steering pump belt fits on the "back" belt slot, and the alternator just rides in the air. I know is the difference in the pump size between the 68's short nose, and the 70's longer nose.
I've looked at classic industries, but there's no magic fix i'm afraid I can find. I figure that maybe there is a deeper pulley that will fit that will be an inch or so deeper, allowing the belts to line up correctly. If not, someone suggested changing out the brackets. I dont think that is an option, because everything lines up EXCEPT the water pump pulley.
So, does someone know of a deeper water pump pulley? Or is there a different water pump I can get to relocate the pulley into the correct position?
That's the only thing keeping me from firing this pig up!!!
