I just bought an Auto Gauge #2302 3 3/4" tach, with a built in shift-light, for my '68 Bracket Bird. Haven't got to race it yet. But the guy who is working on the car for me, says that he has used and installed several. He likes 'em.
Of, course, if you don't want a shiftlight, there are several cheaper options. And you can get white face, black face, and several different sizes. Back in the old days, we just strapped 'em to the column and put our shift point straight up. When the needle got straight up, SHIFT ! It worked for us--won lots of races.
Most of the time, an Ebay seller will have the best price on tachs. So, I always find the part number of the part I want, then Google for the best price.
For example: This Sunpro CP7901 tach is only $30 shipped, on Ebay.
