There was talk of someone making glass done that way, i.e. a repop that would be reasonably close to the originals. I think that was 3 or 4 years ago. Not sure what happened.
I got my set of 'bird glass by buying a car up in Michigan with them, I then parted out the car and kept the glass. You could see them in the picture of the car, I was a bit surprised no one else had thought of the windows being bird glass. I paid maybe 800 for the car and made a bit more than that from parting it out.
(3) Are these EXACT images patented, therefore can't legally be reproduced in decal form, OR ??? You would have to provide the images to the Patent and Trademark Office to verify that it was trademarked. And if the trademark had been maintained. Alternately, you could contact an attorney to do the work for you. I had some Pontiac logos with the red arrowhead printed on vinyl a few years ago. I called up GM and asked to speak to their licensing department who put me in touch with a vendor who was paying GM for the right to print Pontiac image on vinyl. I had him make a few for me and couple friends. He was hoping I was going to do more than that with them, i.e. resell them myself, but I just wasn't into the hassle..
This was it in an 18"x18" size, I embedded it into the epoxy of my garage floor.
(4) If the image is patented, how much of a variation to it, (How much different would it need to be), in order for it to be legal ?
This is where you would have to contact an attorney in my humble opinion. Not the answer you want to hear, but it would be a debate in court with the trademark holder if one exists about consumer confusion and how you were using it.
Most of my experience is with getting patents done which is a very different arena compared to trademarks.
