I purchased a '68 Bird convertible last fall. 350ci, Comp Cam XE262H, Edelbrock 1406 carb were installed. You may remember me posting about it running hot (220ish) while idling and vapor locking. It had dual Spal 10" 600CFM fans, an aluminum radiator with a flat aluminum shroud and stock shroud (just for looks). After getting advice from this site, the following was done.
New high volume FlowKooler cast water pump New stainless divider plate with gap closed to .118" (it was .380" before adjustment) New Flexalite Extreme 180 3,300CFM 16" electric fan, with built-in shroud and seal (very nice!!!) New stainless recovery bottle/tube mounted to radiator (there was no recovery bottle before) New wiring and new relay set at 180 degree fan start New higher capacity alternator to support larger fan New Optima battery Timing adjustment....it was way off 1/2" carb spacer/insulator
After heating up the garage to 90+ degrees and letting it idle/rev for about 3 hours, it's running nice and cool now. It never got over 185. Ready for use this summer!!!! Thanks for the advice. I used a lot of the suggestions.
