I had that problem close to 15 years ago...cannot recall how I opened it...but once I had it open...I just re-bent, straightened that piece a bit.....once bent its just a tad too short to activate...

for some reason, I think I got panel and handle off...but do not recall how I opened the door.....I`ve slept since
