When my 400 was pretty much stock, 16 heads, using the higher octane fuels made a noticeable difference. I mostly used the Low Lead 100 I could get at a small local airport. My engine responded well to this fuel. ... And the exhaust smelled better. That fuel was only $1 more, or so, than premium pump gas. ... And I might drive 1,000 miles per year, so...

Was it necessary. No. Did I like it? Yes
