Maybe ask Coker. My Coker bias Firestone Wide Oval Redlines also have the Firestone name facing out so that it is "flipped" from other tires as you describe. They describe the manufacture as "made in the original molds in the USA with modern materials and technology", implying that they are correct. I notice on the Coker site that other Firestone repros do not flip the lettering.
