sealing up an aluminum valley pan

I have heard that aftermarket aluminum valley pans[butler perf.] need a special type of sealer in order for the aluminum to seal right.If I use THE RIGHT STUFF from permatex,do you use a gasket or just the sealer,and if there is no clearance problems should i just use my o.e.m. pan. confused
