Sorry if these things sound like they should be obvious, but I need a couple things clarified.
I’m replacing the shifter boot in my ‘69. It has a Hurst installed with an M-21. I ordered the standard Hurst style shift boot and retaining ring that petty much all the parts suppliers seem to offer.
The boot comes from the supplier kind of compressed like an accordion. Is it supposed to stay that shape when installed or should it be sort of stretched out vertically? (I wish there was a better way to describe this.) leaving it flat makes it a little harder to shift than my old boot, especially when going into reverse.
Also, I need to replace the console mounting bracket. Is this bracket mounted on top of the carpet or is it mounted before the carpet is installed and the carpet cut around it?
