I think you could safely pull and reposition the pittman arm. I need to do this, too. I replaced the pittman arm a few months ago and I think I got it off by a tooth. I have heard that some pittman arms only fit the steering gear a certain way, but I'm not sure if that's true.
You could simply adjust the left and right tie rods an equal amount in/out until it's right. This shouldn't throw the alignment so long as you do equal turns and mind the threads.
