the hardest part of the job is removal of every thing in front.. radiator, fan, condenser if you have ac, water pump, timing cover, intake, valve covers, in order to access the cam.. you must first set the car to tdc on the #1 cylinder and read the directions closely.. you may have to set the mechanical timing on some cams... most however will go right in.. when changing the cam be sure to liberally lube the cam , buy one that comes with new lifters or you will need to buy them separately.. do not reuse old lifters when replacing the cam, as far as the valves, nothing is needed there, as far as the carburetor, that depends on how radical your cam is, if you stay mild and you already have a 4 bbl carb you should be ok.. if you go more aggressive you may need to rejet or possibly replace the carburetor with a higher cfm unit. It's not very hard but be sure to pay close attention to breakdown and clean all gasket surfaces when putting it all back together, oh, and replace the timing chain if it's even a little old.. doesn't make sense to leave it when you have to tear it that far down.
