I just finished replacing mine and next time I would do things a little different. I don't know if this is the best way but I would remove the core from the inside. The only way I was able to get the cover off in the engine compartment was to remove the fender. I only did this because I replaced the fan motor. This was a job that was not fun. When you pull the assembly from under the dash I would suggest leaving the control cables, knobs etc. attached and remove all as one piece. Four screws, one wiring harness and the control assembly drops out of the dash. Remove the glove box liner and door for easy access. You may want to pull your radio for added space. Remove the nuts from inside the engine compartment and the studs are attached to the heater core housing. The two nuts located up in behind the fender are a real pain to remove. I used a 1/4" drive with a swivel head. Depending on how much sealant they used you may have to use some finesse to work the core cover out. Cover your carpet because you are bound to get antifreeze on everything. A little twisting and the housing slides out through the glove box opening followed by the cables and control assembly. Be careful not to kink the cables. Good Luck
