I'm not absolutely positive about this, but it seams that membership is not automatic. You can look anonymously, but to post there is some accountability. I think the anonymity, with some people, loosens their lips a little too much.
A true virtual garage would have a more "face to face" feeling. I know that a lot of the comments made on this site would never fly in a real garage. (something would fly though! maybe fur) It's all in what you are looking for and what you like. Some people that thrive on anonymity would hate the site. To each his own. Myself, I believe that another First Gen site is an awesome thing and hats off to the creater/s.
