That is an ambient temperature sensor. They were introduced in '68. Basically, all it does is prevent the A/C compressor clutch from engaging when the outside temperature is below a specific degree..I think it's like 40 degrees...just put the sensor in and leave it disconnected since you done have the wiring for it. Your A/C will work properly.Or, plug the hole.
