I would go with cutting down the big car drive shaft. I am making the same swap in my 69 and am going to have the original drive shaft cut if need be. I think I have a short shaft TH400, so I won't have to, but I called around for prices. $30 - $45 was the range to shorten one from 4 shops. I was expecting more, but it's pretty cheap!
