I've heard that paint was sequenced to control waste. I don't have it in print from an authoritative source, but I worked for an auto supplier and they did the same thing. One paint line, three finishes, they would run all the pallets regardless of customer or part number that got one finish, clean the system and change the finish, then run the next color lot, then the last. When done, they'd redirect the bins back into the job lots.
