At 3k with very limited rare servicable parts, that will be one expensive set of rotors. It is only a 1 of 4000 car (manual 350 HO).
Car is worth more together than parted at this point. In fact, IMO, $2500 would have been my limit. There is not one straight panel on that car, let alone the f/r bumpers. If you told me Steve McQueen owned the car before or upon his death, I may go 5k, sentimental reasons. I wouldn't touch that Bird (with all due respect) for anything more than $2500.
68 HO yes, 10k yes, all together, yes, rare, sort of. That is one HUGE project even if you did all of your own work at your cost as "" can do. Nostalgia, low milage and a pedigree is all I see. If I had the original title, maybe a little more. Although the original shocks are there, I replaced my 99 TA shocks after 108k.
I am a [censored], yes, but someone will froth at the mouth over this car and after a few years will be kicking a clydesdale hoof in the rear for even attempting a restoration.
A RAI/RAII car, a definate restoration candidate. A 400 HO car, maybe if a reputable and acknowledged Pontiac restorer completed all the work (Scott Tiemann) A wash as a NOM 400 car. A loss as an HO car.
Doubt me? Work the numbers. Reality yes, and certainly a realist.
Lets look at this realistically. An HO car, if there is a reserve.
68 NOS quarters Yea, right. repops not worthy of this car. $2250 per side 67/8 NOS fenders $1200 67/8 NOS emblems all around $1000-1500 Straight standard hood $100 New OEM bumpers, rechromed $700 Shocks probably still servicable, resto $150 (paint, labor) Complete front end rebuild (NOS) $800-1200 (refer r/s wheel) Assume frame is straight Panel replacement, paint, roof repair/replacement, roof rail moldings, inner moldings, body alignment, NOS door handles, hell, NOS everything, it is an HO car..$13-18k
$24k resto on the low end. And I am being generous. I would not doubt the potential buyer is not already considering a cowl plate/vin swap on this one. A rust free 68 shell can be had for less than 2k.
Let the debating begin.
