I just Googled 421 Super Duty. Wow. Just wow. We ooo and aah at the Ram Air motors for Firebirds, and people pay huge $ for RA, but these 421s and 428s were quietly pumping out huge horsepower.
If I had known what I know today ,when I was looking for my bird.....
I flew up to St Louis to look at a 68 vert.400,..... 400 hood, freshly painted Verdoro green , parchment interior and top...beatiful car...the colors I was really looking for...I was told it had a 428 in it...I was all eager..flew there to buy it, but had a return ticket,,...my plan was to drive it back...
but first problem I had was ,it was a column shift..."you didnt ask" was the sellers answer when I said "its a co;lumn shift"? ,but it had bucket seats... second , engine was tired, wouldnt even spin the tires...(or maybe the tranny?)
but had I known....the cars was negotiated to $13,000, I should have taken it... was worried about the engine ,but could have had it rebuilt ($1500-2000?)...could easily have gotten a console with console shifter ($1000?)...had no idea then it basically is the same thing ,just re routed... so for $16,000 I could have had it, maybe...instead I bought the 69 for $8000 and fixed it for another $16k....
