G may be base for the model, 5,6 and 8 may be cylinders?
who knows anymore...
Volvos system used to be good , now its different... I used to be able to figure them...
120 series,140 series ,and 240 series were same type car , different years platform , 142 was 4 cyl., 2 dr, 144 4 dr, 145 wagon, same with 240 series and 7 series, 744 ,745,( no 2 dr), 940 same, them came 780 (2dr) lost the 2 , no 782, , but 760 series and 960 sseries were 6 cyl`s.,then they picked up the Mercedes style numbering and changed, S ,V and C....S for sedan , V for "vagn" = wagon, C for coupe and convertibles = 2 drs.....
G series by Pontiac , or Q by Infinity....I have no clue?
and MBs old numbereing was easy....cc`s and D for Diesel, C for coupe , SL for sport etc, SLK is sport "kurtze" = short
