That shakin' is a worn-out pilot bearing, and not necessarily the trans. The input shaft relies on the pilot bearing as a second support. If you just grab the nose of the sahft with the trans out of the car, it will move around a little.
Replace both bearings (Input and pilot) if you want to be really, really sure.
