He`s been a good dog, Little John ,he was 14 yrs old +, an American Cocker, but he had all the typical Cocker problems...
bad eyesight, going blind,skin problems his whole life...neck (disc) problem that we took care of for 2.5 yrs with Alfalfa pills (antiinflammatory, for you who may have inflammation problem in dogs! works great), had cancerous growths , some removed , some kept coming...he was getting really "old", walked with hard breathing ,got tired easily , just old age...last night while out "doing his things" he jumped over some Liriope grass ,fractured his front leg...took him to two vets this am.....final result ,decision to "let him go"....
wife cried horribly....and we havent told the kids yet (22,25) son is at Tulane Univ. in School, he has a wedding to attend tomorrow, my daughter in LA has an audition for a play today...we cant tell them until monday probably.....it will break their hearts...

he`ll be cremated, ashes come home next week.....not sure what we`ll do with them...

its hard , as always to loose a pet.....this is my 7th dog....to loose...doubt we`ll get any moore...I just will have to "love" others dogs!

sorry to hear that bjorn. just know that for every one that goes theres another to take there place right next to them! better off now that there in heaven rather than being in pain on earth!

Sorry to hear that Bjorn. I have one ready to go too, can't believe she's lasted this long without any apparent pain. But they have lived good lives, haven't they!

Sorry to hear that Bjorn, my English Setter turns 10 this year and her age is starting to show. Not likely I will ever own such a great dog again.

Pets come and go but it never gets any easier.

I'm so sad to hear that Bjorn. Pets are part of our families and are so special. And each one has a special personality that you simply can't replace just buying another cat or dog.

My brother's dog, pushing eleven years old decided recently to eat a tennis ball that was as large as his head. (He's a maltese terrior). He had played with his tennis ball for years and never hinted he would eat it. Once in his stomach in bits and pieces, it got stuck. Surgery to remove it cost several thousand, but for the whole family it was money well spent.

Once a pet's quality of life deteriorates, one really has to have the animal put down, because otherwise it's just cruel. We've had to make this choice ourselves and it's always a difficult and emotional time.

Sorry for your loss, Bjorn. We had a beloved basset hound that ran away a couple years ago. We'd had him for 14 years. Even though he's been "replaced", we still miss him. Feel better.

I have 3 dogs all the same age. I dread when the time comes.
I cried like a baby when I put my cat down recently.
My dogs will be real hard on me.

I'm dreading the day my three cats go.Two are 15 and one is 16.
It is tough when you have to let go of a pet.The unconditional love they have for you.

Bjorn we know how you feel. Pets are family. They are just like kids. We really miss our dogs and our birds that have passed away. We lost our Springer, Max, who was 11, and our Brittany, Sheba, who was 17. We are just so happy that they were part of our life and they always will be.

sorry about your loss bjorn.i have a full blooded rotweiller here i will give you free.he is a year and a half old and very friendly and a great watch dog

My condolences Bjorn, I know how much the pain of losing a belove pet tears the heart to shreds. It was one of the hardest times for me when I lost my cat Boo to old age, he was ninteen.

I have made a small shrine for all my cats ashes. They are to be cast to the wind with my ashes when that time comes.

Revel in the thoughts of the times spent with Little John, knowing his love for you was without bound. They give so much, and ask for so little in return.

Sorry to hear that Bjorn... that is something I know I'll have to face as out two labs are 9 almost 10, and showing their age at times.

I'm just glad to hear you have so many good memories with him to remember him by...

I know the whole family will feel the loss for some time, but in time it all fades...

Sorry to hear this, Bjorn. They become like your kids & it's a hard thing to deal with. My German Rott died a few years back after having him for 11 years. He was a good dog & I still miss him alot.

and James, yes..its something we get over , the worst part now is ,we as humans are so conditioned too, its really 'empty" here w/o the little guy...where ever I move in the house, I keep looking expecting to see that little face ,and wagging his tail...he was usually let out by the wife in the am as I went to the bath room ,then he`d be standing there by the master br french doors waiting for me to leave that area, then run to the family room fr drs as I would pass them ,to see that I`d g to the kitchen and then you`d hear his paw on the kitchen door....he wanted in to get his treats with his medicin.....its sooo empty here, the house is like a tomb, no pun intended.....wife is already talking about 'our next'....I`m not sure I want another one...I didnt want this one 14 yrs ago, for this re occurring event...

love to have another ,BUT hate this point in time, this event...I think I`d rather 'love' other peoples dogs at this point...
