I am looking for magazine pictures or any pictures of the Myrtle Motors (Maspeth, NY) 68 Firebirds. They had 428's w/Ram air cam, heads, pan and TH400 tranny.Pictured cars were in an old muscle cars magazine and I am told that the one shown was red w/black stripes.Camaro rear spoiler & 428 emblems on the hood. If any one has any magazine articles or photographs of these cars please imput any information. I am building a 68 428 Firebird and thinking of going with the Myrtle Motors theme.
Hey Rick, No, my name is Dan. I live near the golf course. We need to touch base if that's possible. It would be a great help if you can find that article and maybe we can get together over a copy machine with pizza and do some bird talking. My phone is 621-5832.
I'm not at home now, else I'd scan in the photos for you. The issue was September 1968 Popular Hot Rodding.
Myrtle used 428 emblems on the hood, but left the 400 emblem on the trunk lid. I believe their reasoning behind this was that the trunk lid emblem signified that the car was a "Firebird 400" model (like a "GTO"), yet the hood emblems told you of the engine change. Either that, or they couldn't get a 428 emblem to fit on the trunk lid back in 1968.
Stealthbird, Thanks allot! This info is great.I now know allot more about the set-up they were using. I'll be using a Doug Nash five speed instead of the turbo-hydro. I'm not sure about their paint scheme.I might go with Royal's instead.
