I have a 1969 Firebird with drums brakes. I have a 1979 Camaro front sub frame compltete with disc brake setup. Will this swap work for me? They look Identical to me. Any help will be appreciated.
nope. If you search the archives here, you can find what cars will match. One of the easiest to find is late 60s early 70s A body cars. (LeMans, Skylark, Cutlass, Malibu).
I'm sorry I miss type the year of the camaro front clip it is a 1974 not 1979. I noticed that you did not list the camaro in your reply. Will the 2nd gen firebird/camaro work?
And foget the interchange list because those cars have been crushed long ago or have been boned of disc brake parts long before the internet was invented.
The best bet is to buy spindles, backing plates, caliper brackets on line and then all the rest(calipers, rotors, ect.) is available cheaply at your local parts stores. Spindles; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-68-69-...sspagenameZWDVW
I agree with Jim's advice, but have seen people make the second gen subframe work by fabbing new horns on the front of the sub.
dito!... could work but depends on the work you want to put into it. for what its worth.... buy the aftermarket brake kit and install it. SO EASY A CAVE MAN COULD DO IT!!! lol

due to budget cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been disconnected for non payment.
I saw a listing on ebay the other day from seller Fatrodder. Disc set-up was as cheap as any I've seen. Don't know about quality or fit but pretty cheap. They sell all the parts separately too so you can buy everything or as much as you want.

Sorry to say but there still around and with the discs still on them, I picked up a 74 Nova parts car a few months ago for $500 with discs and lots of other parts
This list is just for the spindle 69 Camaro 69-74 Nova 71-74 Ventura 73-74 Apollo 69-72 Chevelle 70-72 Monte Carlo 73-74 Omega 69-72 Tempest 70-72 Grand Prix
this list is for the Upper, lower control arms and the spindle 73-74 Apollo 69 Camaro 69-74 Nova 73-74 Omega 71-74 Ventura
I didnt list any of the years before 69 because you have a 69 and thats when GM went to the single calipers And the sub frame is the same on the 69 Camaro,69 Firebird, 68-72 Nova, and 71-72 Ventura
So none of the 70 and newer Camaro/Firebird parts would work? I have a 1974 camaro and A friend has a 1978 firebird. Could I do a whole front subframe swap?
Nope. Not without a lot of fabrication and fitment. The front end geometry is all different. All the steering parts are different including the control arms.
Try Scarebird.com He's a guy that makes brackets to easily convert to front (or rear) disc brakes. That way you can use your spindles aleady on the car and more commonly available calipars and rotors. He might have a bracket for the front of your car that will allow you to use the parts off the 74.
