tom, i know of a 67 wz if you want it. 1000$ asking price comes as a short block. owner took off tri power to use with a 66 block to put in a gto. was running before it was taken down.

I sold a rebuilt 389 about a year ago to some guy from OH. After cash was in hand, engine loaded we were talking. He was restoring a tri-power 4 spd GTO. last thing he said was "restamp". Man that pissed me off, but I needed the cash and all those Franklins! I kept an eye out for it for a while, I was going to rat him out.
lol jim. dont/wont do it to anybody who doesnt know already its not original! also restamp was a joke as i do feel it isnt moral to do so. my car is/never will be original as a v-8 car. its an ohc car from the factory! a 400 would be too obvious because of the vin. vin would give it away in 2 seconds! not to mention it would be in the ad as a non original/non matching engine!

also some food for thought. what does numbers match really mean when there are people out there that do re-stamp to deceive others into believing they are getting the original engine that was in the car. numbers matching means nothing when joe blow can walk up to an engine and change its whole life history with a few wacks of a hammer and a few minutes of his time. thats why i place little on the numbers value and more on the craftsmanship/workmanship of the restoration! better to know you got a well built car then a matching car!

It seems that more and more people are putting less stock in "numbers matching". My car has a 400 from a 68 full size Pontiac that was recently rebuilt this past summer to RamAir III specs. I am running a Q-j from 68 etc. My goal is to build my car as close to 100% stock as possible. I enjoy building my car and I find going stock to be a fun challenge. I figure I could never afford to buy a "number matching" RamAir III so I'm building one. I would never restamp my block and or try and pass it off as authentic. That's what is nice about our Birds, with PHS noone can pass our cars off for something they are not...
I'm one of those guys. However, my 67 FB was/is all original except the intake, carb, distributor, stereo, and wheels. This will be my factory #'s car with finished.
The GTO drive train is missing, and the car was originally yellow. Now it's brown. All the jambs are great, so no spending the time or $ to change back. Just make it a driver. Besides, it's not a FB
Heres the block codes i can use for auto trans;
yz, xw, xs, and ys(the most common). Heads would be #16. Intake; last 3 #'s 140 or 068.
I don't sell to restampers...never. So don't tell me. It's too late for you Drew, you already told me.
Hey Jim, it would be ok to sell to a re-stamper; like that block in that high optioned 400 'bird that was supposed to be a mule for PMD. That re-stamp was so botched.

Here's my opinion on that; When is anybody going to look at the stamp? Answer; When they are thinking of buying the car and want to see if has the original engine. I'm not going to be part of making it harder for a buyer to figure out if the car he may want has the original engine. And another thing; why would anyone ever restamp except for to get a better price for the car? To restamp for money is wrong in my book. Just my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Every car has one original engine. If it's gone don't bother to restamp.
I agree, but also disagree. Yes it had only one "original" engine. Part number 123, date code XYZ, the block stamp makes it "the" original engine but the stamp dosn't change part #123, and date code XYZ makes it the correct part for that car and makes it numbers correct, but the stamp does make it matching number correct. So any 123-XYZ is the correct part.
The re-stamping is a personal thing I guess. I'm ok with it as long as casting and date codes are correct, it still is the correct part. But I'm not really into all matching number stuff anymore. It's a old car, things break and wear out. Especially if it gets used like they should. Stamping the wrong block is definitly wrong, but easy to spot.
Wanting a Custom fit in an off the rack world.
I don't have time for a job, I just need the money.
I was kiddin' Jim. If someone is going to re-stamp a block, they should be drawn & quartered. If they do hammer away, at least they can do a terrible job to make it obvious.
jim....pm with the price you want for the block if your willing to sell it to me. if not understood but know i dont have a v-8 car and wouldn't re-stamp it anyway. too much hassle of explaining to others its just for show. besides if someone were to get ahold of the car after me and sell it as numbers matching i wouldn't feel right! would leave it as i bought it!

My block is actually an SD-455 block. The factory just made a mistake when they stamped it "JA". Oh yeah, and the cast-in date code is a mistake too. And um, somebody ground the 455 off the side...
AHH I was wondering if you were still following.... This one is really nice. Low miles, ran good, pulled and sat for a long time in a good storage place. $1K
