I was looking at a pontiac engin that is a XS code engine with a 7k3 head on it. Does anyone know what motor that is and what it was out of??? Any help would be appricated
I looked at the 69 motors on this web site and did not notice an xs block. did I miss it? How would I know if it was a gto block (not likely)
We would need to know the date on the block. It's near the distributor hole. For example(pic), this one is L-18-7. Translation; 12-18-67, which would actually be a 68 engine due to the late 67 date.

XS is a GTO Ram Air block code and would not be listed here.

You could go with these heads if you had to replace the pistons before running. TRW makes a piston for standard deck height that places a 72 cc head at 9.47 to 1.
1967 670's 72 cc 1968 16's 72 cc 1969 48's (expensive) (72 cc 400HO) (65 cc 350 HO) 1969 62's usually 75-82 cc some are 72 1970 12's 72 cc 1970 13's Seen heads from 72 to 82 cc
These are easiest and no additional machining
There are other heads that can be used, but require a SERDI cut to open up the intake size.

Here are the casting numbers for the motors. The one is 9790078 date code of E069 and the other one is 9790079 with a date code of L149.
So what are these engines???? What are they out of . Looks like both are 69 engines but out of what and what are they 350, 350ho, 400, 400ho????? one is an xs block and the other is a wm block.
I must be screwing up when using it then. Thank you for the help. Are there certain field that have to be filled in or could I just put the 9790079 in and it would turn out the rest?
the trick is just to put only the info you need to search, and in the right spaces.
Engine code goes up near the top, if you search on casting codes it goes in the box at the bottom. It's easiest to search on the letter codes and use your knowledge to eliminate by date and casting number.
