Does anyone know HOW MANY of these birds were made? When I was about 17, I swear I found one in the junkyard in Altamont NY and it was the damnest thing I ever saw. Of course this was the spring of 1983, so don't get excited about getting to buy it. I doubt the junkyard is still there let alone the car!
Now don't laugh at me, I remember the pink Firebird, and when I saw the page today the memory came right back to me like it was yesterday!
1969 Firebird 350 Coupe, Rust free Texas body, formerly brown, now a TA clone with quality spoiler, latching hood and TA wheel; 1969 GTO Convertible Expresso Brown/Parchment(currently painted red). Both numbers matching. My first love was a Cameo White 67 326 Coupe, bought back in 1983, at the age of 17, for $1,200. Been hooked since on PONTIAC! Working on a 67 400 ragtop for customization-Gulf Turquoise/Parchment/400/4 spd! My winter project!
I am pretty sure that a pink Firebird (1968) was given to Nancy Sinatra as a promotion....it was at one time raffled off for charity...There was also a white 1967 Ram Air Firebird convertible that was raffled off for charity!...WOW I would like to own that one!
This is the details that the owner before me had when he was selling the car...
This is a 1968 Pontiac Firebird Original Pink Mist Color Option with No Rust!
This car was a one owner car until I bought it in February! The lady we bought it from said her dad bought her the car for her high school graduation. The dealership her dad bought it from new told him the car had been ordered for Nancy Sinatra and then she bought something else.
I have every service slip since 1968. The car hadn't been driven very much the last 15 years but it had been garaged.
I bought the car thinking it needed very little work. I did everything thing that need to be done to make it right. I originally intended on fixing the engine and just doing the paint and interior work to make it showroom original condition. The car was painted about 1 year ago but the prep work was done by the original owners husband not the body shop. I was going to get the car repainted but since it's pink you may want to do it a different color. Interior is all original, probably a 5 on a scale of 10.
The more I investigated the mechanics the more it needed and I did it all!!! The problem is I ran out of money and the paint and interior still aren't done. On top of that I'm getting married (the car was going to be for her) on April 17th and now I need the money worse than the car. My fiancée and I have talked about it and decided to sell the car and pay off some of our bills.
This car origianlly came with a 350 2 bbl carb and a 2 speed auto transmission. I have upgraded the car as follows.
New (rebuilt with all new parts and shipped in a crate) Pontiac 400 Engine New GM 200 R4 Transmission 4 speed with overdrive and lockup torque converter New KYB gas shocks on the front New adjustable air shocks on the rear New 4 Wheel Disc Brake conversion kit with all steel lines New master cylinder New Steering Box and Steering Wheel New Water Pump New Edelbrock 650 Intake Manifold and New Edelbrock 4 Bbl Carburetor New Custom Flowmaster Exhaust New Eagle 2 Piece Alloy Rims 15 x 7 and 4 new BF Goodrich TA's 235/60R 15 Recharged AC
The only big thing that this man failed to do was install headers while the engine was out and everything was in easy access.
Than when I got the car he was right the interior was pretty bad but the engine was all nice.. I replaced the floor carpet and also the door panel carpet. Bought new edlebrock valve covers and also a new edlebrock air intake housing. Also the front two tires were to large for the wheel wells so I got smaller tires for the front.
Ive been looking around for a new shifter probably a slap shifter one that would fit in the console without sticking out... any ideas on that?
Future planes new seat covers front buckets and back. and it would be nice to do something about the gauges.
The car in the junkyard was always a like a UFO sighting for me, since I never really made much hay about it, figuring people would disbelieve me! It DID have the paint code "SPEC" on the cowl plate and it was indeed a coupe with no vinyl top or anything. I think it had the rotted remnants of a parchment interior. But not much of anything left of her. Remember that in upstate NY a 16 year old car on that era is far more rusted than a 40 year old car out of the deep south or west due to the unGodly amounts of road salt used here in the winter.
Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane! I have very fond memories of rumaging through junkyards for hours on end stripping little parts from classic musclecars and paying a dollar or two for each. Of course thanks to the legal industry and fool vandals most of that is now taboo to junkyard owners!
The pink firebird was almost forgotten until I saw this post today!
ps- Geoff, are you selling her??? How much?

Actually, I don't own either. I have had this site up since 1998 and have had a few people contacting me about the Pink Bird they owned or now own. I doubt many came this way.
If it helps, I was thinking about April Fools Day when I decided and then selected the color to put up this morning. All I had this year. The real prank is it is a real color.
yeah, that was a real neat blast from the past. My buddy and I were perplexed about the car and at one point someone told us it was an Avon ladies promotional, but we I didn't make a lot of fuss, thinking it was a rare special order somehow. I wonder if that car would be a real collectible, like the Tom McAnn GTO?

A few years ago in Scottsdale, AZ I saw a 68 pink 400 convertible with parchement interior. It was for sale. I ask the owner where the car came from. He said that each monthly winner of Playboy Bunny was given a 400 convertible in pink. I dont know how true it was but that was his story.
I have two 68 Firebirds: 68 convertible ls2, auto 4L60E, red interior, white/black power top. I have owned since 1971. 2) 68 coupe, aqua/white tope. aqua interior, 350 4 speed. I am restoring this car and it will be for sale. Before paint or after.
MUCH more interesting indeed, than the Avon Lady (or Mary Kay)
When I was a little boy I collected baseball cards, made model airplanes, and went fishing with my Dad. Then I discovered girls and cars and my life was ruined forevermore.

We built at least two pink '68 Firebird convertibles at Lordstown for DeLorean to give to Nancy Sinatra when they were dating; pink paint, pink leather, pink tops, pink everything.
She wrecked the first one and we built a second one to replace it.
The pink interior and convertible top WERE a bit much, but that's the way they were built; I recall the Production Control guys saying that the top and interior parts came from some outfit in California, not from the usual Fisher Body trim plants.
