The current owner swears it was a tri-power car because he supposedly sold the engine and tri-power out of it several years ago. I wil get a PHS though, that's a good idea,
I've got to pull it out, sort through all of the parts that are there and are missing, decide if the Lemans parts car needs to go with it and get the PHS to see what it really is first. Maybe take the rallyII's depending on the date codes (if they match the GTO I will leave them) That will take about two weeks for me. I'll let you know then though.
That does not look like the original engine. The valve covers look like Pre '66 valve covers off a 389 and the engine paint is certainly pre '66. Check the VIN number against the block serial number.
