I just purchased the car...Finally after a week and half of waiting. First thing is first what should i name my project...?? And another thing would be where do i start?!?!?!? Any helpful hints into what should i start rebuilding first?
do you want to name the car? like Ursula, or Mahitabel? or maybe, "The Red Ripper" or "Black Beast" depending on color, of course.
or is it more of a project name, like "Operation Oxidation Storm" or "Verdoro Freedom" depending on color, of course.
then there's the second question. i will leave that to someone else, but it would help to know what kind of shape it's in, what you want to end up with, and how soon you want to start driving it.
Start w checking ,and repairing if necessary, the brakes, front end parts ( on mine we found a welded spindel!), check frame and springs , all the hard to get to things...in case you want a running restoration, then get to the motor and trunk, then exterior body w body work & paint, then the interior...if a convert. do top last... just my .02
Like bjorn said start with getting the mechanical done first. Also make a list of what else you need beside's the mech. Then while your working on that start collecting other part's that you'll be needing down the road.
Yep ... along with Bjorn and Doug: Get it running and stopping without overheating. The rest can take its time, but get it on the road as quickly as possible so you can enjoy it.

......there was a time when my wife USED to help work on my 'bird.......that was when we first got her.....then it became "do you just want me to give you a sleeping bag and cooler, so you 2 can be together more!".....wives can be verrrry jealous sometimes.....maybe I should stop refering to my car as "her" or "she", think that might help? She is a clean freak (it's a German thing). So while she is "blitzkreiging" the house, I get to work in the garage. I'm happy to be working on the car, she's happy I'm not underfoot and making a mess in the house.

salmon38, my wife is german. She refers to my bird as "the new Baby". Oder "die neue kind". I'm the only one changing its diapers though.
I refer to my 68 Firebird as "My Iraqi Freedom", as it was paid for by the money I saved while fighting in Iraq this year.
"Deine Mervitzstoi", your tax dollars helped me buy this beautiful 68 Firebird! Thank you all for being great Americans! Even if you cheated a little on taxes like I do, thank you for bringing my dream of owning this car to fruition!
'68 428 HO M3 Monster, 4-on-the-floor! Need I say more?
nashville68bird.....NO, it is all us us who should THANK YOU, I really hope I do not start a politcal debate here, whether we should be in Iraq or not, but we ARE there and I want to THANK ALL of our men/women who risked and lost their lives, so that maybe the people of Iraq may some day be able to enjoy, and hopefully not under appreciate the freedoms that we have here. THANK YOU again, nashville68bird for putting YOUR life on the line, for the principals that allow US to debate, and speak our minds about the things which are important to us. Kelly

Glad to see that I'm not the only "crazy" person who bought a 'bird off ebay.....site unseen. Had several people tell me I was "wacko".........they don't tell me that anymore!!!!.......Bjorn, does your friend post here? Let's see some pics!! Kelly
The name of the car depends on the condition of it: my favorite was my first car, a '66 Mustang Conv...called it the Flintstang because the floor boards were totally rotted out and I could have powered it like the Flintstones did their cars
Definitely start with mechanical squeaks and squeals...they can be dangerous. I bought my car off of Ebay (not unseen though; I did plenty of inspection on it) and after only a few miles it developed some squeaking in the driver rear wheel area. It turned out to be a seized bearing that was eating up the axle.
