If you guys followed the thread a few months ago...I bought a completely restored, date correct Qjet from Chicago Corvette.
I have since found out that the carb was actually just purchased by CC from Custom Built Carburetors out of NJ ( www.customrebuiltcarbs.com ).
I am sending the carb back to the owner Phil at C.R.C. for him to check it and see what the deal is with the fuel leaking down into the intake. He seems like a very nice and knowledgeable guy and hopefully he'll be able to find out what the issue is. I wish I would have pulled it off the car a while ago and sent it then...at least it's not top-down season yet
I purchased a 69 quadrajet from Phil at custom rebuilt carbs also and guess what? I mounted it and fuel started gushing out of the air horn and plunger. I called him and sent it back for adjusting, got it back and the same thing fuel leaking all over the place on my $4,000 rebuilt 350 HO. Man I was mad. After speaking with Phil yet again it sounded like he didn't know what was happening and just tested the vaccum. Now he is building me a different 69 carb. All I can say is it better work this time. Todd
Having fuel pouring out is a typical problem with most Q Jet carbs. The problem lies with either an improper set float or sticking needle which allows too much fuel into the bowl, causing it to overflow.I went through about 5 rebuilt Q Jets before I got a good one,but in the meantime I carried what I called "The GM carb Tune up Kit"with me a Small ball pein hammer and give the front of the carb a tap on the bowl, this usually loosened things up inside and back on the road we go.
The thought crossed my mind a few times, but I had to refrain myself since it happened to me once when I was about 200 miles from home, slight tap better than big tow bill.I finally got one through NAPA that I have been using for 4 years,I don`t have alot of miles on the car since I put that carb on,it works like charm, and NO overflowing mess.
Good advice on tapping the bowl. There are plenty of businesses that are restoring the carbs to show quality these days and they are high priced. Thats why when one pays $375 for a carb you don't want to have to get out the "hammer". Todd
You are absolutely right, when you pay the big bucks, you shouldn`t have to beat it up with a hammer.I paid over $400 CDN for my first carb and when it started to screw up,out came the hammer,I don`t care how much it costs, but if it doesn`t work right it`s no F***** good to begin with, and it doesn`t matter who rebuilt it,JUNK is JUNK!
By the way Darron, I tried your trick with tapping on the bowl and the it must have freed up the needle because now there is now fuel leakage.....but its still screwed up runs very rich, lots of black smoke and it starts hard. I'm getting my carb exchanged for a different one. Thanks for the advice.

No problem,it`s too bad though that you have to replace the carb.Hope you have better luck with the next one.I found the paperwork for my carb and it was rebuilt by Holley,if you can find a company that gets their carbs done by them, you shouldn`t have a problem.
I'm not potty mouthing the expert, but I think that he might be overlooking a little quadrajet quirk of wich few people have been able to figure out. (I found this problem by pure luck.)
I had that problem with the feul bowl flooding, and dinked with for months. I went into it a bezillion times, swapping needles, seats, floats, and float settings.
One time when I opened it, I touched the float hing and its seat, and I noticed that the Jesus clip--the clip that slips around the hinge and clips to the seat--caused the needle bind in the seat. As a result, the needle was sitting cadywampus so that it wouldn't seat. I threw the Jesus clip away and never had the problem again.
The Jesus clip serves no purpose because the needle cannot escape, so the next time that the ol' quad floods, remove the Jesus clip and see if the problem doesn't go away.
