Here´s mine including the space saver tire (although I´m not sure if the latter one is spotting the date correct decal...).
Bought both from Michael Donnelly, he´s restoring and selling tire inflators (full or empty -- depends on what you are willing to pay) and space saver tires. If you should need further advice (or - for example - the inflator´s cap...) you can contact him at mickiemouse1@msn.com (hope this still is his email adress...).
the inflator is correct for a'replacement' but not 'from factory' as shipped...that one has a white cardboard tube with a label that has some green on it...if I recall right...havent looked at mine for awhile...I had one of these red for awhile and when the right one came available I 'upgraded' to it..
are you sure? These are 3 of 67Firebird400´s pics he once has sent me, showing the trunk of one of his pristine 67 Firebirds. He´s normally very accurate concerning the originality and correctness of his cars and their options...
I´m just sharing these 3 pics with you:
The blue spot you see on the one I posted above is on one side only; so depending on how this inflator bottle is turned it can show a white card only, too. But to be honest, I don´t know if the one shown in 67Firebird400´s pics is completely white or if it´s a turned bottle only...
Thomas ....... Bjorn is correct....Those pics I sent you were taken after I sold the car and that bottle is actually an AMC bottle....I took the original bottle out of that car PRIOR to advertising it and selling it (it is a 68) The correct one is incased in a cardboard tube that you would turn to break the tube and remove the top of the tube and the bottle is in there.....I do have the original in my Ram Air car and my 67 car I can take pictures for you if you wish Just let me know JOHN
thanks for your fast reply and kudos to Bjorn, he just knows his stuff... At least better than me... That´s what this board is for: a never ending learning experience. John, of course I would be happy if you could share some pics of the correct inflator bottle although I probably never ever will get my hands on one...
This is what mine looks like. It is shorter than the ones above and completely inside the cardboard tube. It is original to my car and has never been opened. As with a lot of the accessories found on our cars, I'm sure GM used what was available at the time of manufacturing.
I also have one similar in detentions to the first picture, but it is blue in color. It came out of a '67 camaro. Not sure it was original to that car.
I found a pic 67Firebird400 once provided, showing the one Dave´s showing, too:
Then again I searched the web and found a third/forth version... Just enjoy! Obviously you have free choice...
BTW - how does the bottle inside the card box look like? Does it look like mine or Pete´s (will say: do we only miss the card box?) or does it look completely different??
John ,thanks for "rescuing" me with that picture..it would take me a few days to get one from my car...
and a hint...when I bought my original to replace the replacement bottle , Goran is Stockholm found TWO on EBay . isted as GTO bottles, not Firebird....so if you look , check for those too...
also, one other thing I found out...that red replacement bottle is the SAME for several manufacturers, think they bought it from the same source and stuck their individual labels on...GM, AMC etc....possibly the same thing was going on with the "factory installed" bottle...so if you can find one on EBay etc...you can replace with the correct label, those are avbailable...
the biggest issue is now after 9/11 is "shipping", dont remember what I put down for customs on the label to ship the one I bought for Goran...but you cannot say whats "correct"..

I have not opened my cardboard box/tube...but the one thats opened there looks longer and skinnier than what I have....the tube that is..
Bottom line; I've seen this discussion several times and never have been able to conclude the "correct" factory original bottle. Perhaps there were more than one like many of the other things with our cars.
Personally I have an inflator that I purchased about 1972 after I used my original for the purpose it was intended. That 1972 bottle looks like the larger diameter long bottles but with a "replacement" part number. The black cardboard cover that I remember it having was destroyed with things being stuffed in the trunk over the years.
I saw the label similiar to mine on Ebay yesterday....frankly, the replacement style would be just fine in my trunk, who knows, maybe the poor guy drove the car off the lot new, blew his tire, etc. etc...
The way I figure, if we don't know for sure how would 99.99% of the people who look at our cars at cruise nights and shows know the difference? I finally said the heck with it and keep my 1972 bottle displayed. The usual comment is, "look at that little spare".
Actually, I usually look to see if they have the little plastic valve stem remover that came with the spare.
The spacesaver instruction sticker on the inside of the decklid has the cardboard style canister pictured, so my guess is that is the correct one. My guess (without having opened it) is that the aluminium bottle in the cardboard tube was originally a cheaper, disposable type, which was discarded after use and replaced with the red steel canister. But could you choose the refill bottle as an option when ordering the car?
In an earlier thread I posted a picture of 67Firebirdnorways original space saver tire and bottle. I hope it's ok with him to post it again for reference.
I sold him one of my bottles, (still got two left). The only difference between 67-69 is the sticker, which is repoed.

Thanks Goran ,now I dont need to take picture of mine...which looks just like the one your last picture...

Thomas....This 1967 Convertible is 100 % correct in every way...My friend and I restored this car to perfection....it took nearly 5 years to do it...The sapce saver spare and inflator bottle are the original ones that these cars came with from the factory..Notice the correct color of the space saver rim as well.
