OK, ladies and gents, here is the deal. I have always wondered how hot the 1969 TA would have been if they offered a Tyrol Blue with WHITE STRIPES color scheme, in addition to the Cameo White with Tyrol Blue stripes scheme. I am redoing my 69 coupe and after a complete disassembly, stripping, priming, blocking, etc, we are almost ready for paint. The body is unreal with no rust (I took pics with the paint stripped since it was so clean) and I am putting it to you this way- how does the 1st Gen Firebird community feel about the reverse color scheme if it could be pulled off tastefully? If one was in the market for a TA tribute car, would the idea of the car in blue with white stripes appeal? This car is a cosmetic clone to begin with. It is not Ram air or even a 400. It is a magnificent clean 69 350 coupe that has been garaged in Texas for all of it;s 96,000 miles, so instead of the expresso brown paint she came with, I am doing the tribute route. I would appreciate opinions from those here. Have you ever wondered or would you ever want to have owned the 69 TA in the reverse color scheme?
I want to drive the car, but I am sure that at some point I will want to sell it, so what do you think about resale? Do you think people would not pay the $ for a car in that un-original color layout?
Thanks, I will check back for your thoughts before I decide!
1969 Firebird 350 Coupe, Rust free Texas body, formerly brown, now a TA clone with quality spoiler, latching hood and TA wheel; 1969 GTO Convertible Expresso Brown/Parchment(currently painted red). Both numbers matching. My first love was a Cameo White 67 326 Coupe, bought back in 1983, at the age of 17, for $1,200. Been hooked since on PONTIAC! Working on a 67 400 ragtop for customization-Gulf Turquoise/Parchment/400/4 spd! My winter project!
If I were to do a TA clone I would do the reverse color scheme. I would also have a white interior. I also like black with white stripes and a white interior. Don't even think about resale, just do it the way you want.
Yes, I have the Parchment interior as well! I think it looks WAY better with that gut! Anyone else want to weigh in? I would love to see the pics of one out there. I just need to get white decals from Year One or someone from the slightly later models. I even used the hood with the steel frame so I am doing this right and the body is super straight. My paint man is excited since he can do more with the metallic paint with a clear coat, for that "look" more so than with the cameo ivory paint.

Seeing second gen T/A colors on a first gen is ok with me. It gives one to see, 'what if ?'. If I had the time and funds, I'd like to do a '69 T/A in Cameo White with Midnight Green stripes and dark green interior. Or the negative...
THAT green and white might look really cool too! the colors are actually the same, just reversed which they didn't start doing until -what? 1970 1/2 or 1971 model years???

I like the idea... Little things that make you stand out from the rest of the crowd (although that particular crowd is not very big) are always fun things to do.
What got me two 1st gens was wanting a 2nd gen. If my convertible hadn't been available, I'd be owning a 2nd gen Formula or T/A. I've always liked the Blue/White combo.
I was told, but can't confirm that the design team for the '69 T/A, was kicking around the idea of offering the T/A with different color combos over the Cameo White. And supposedly two mules were put into production. A White/Red, Red interior and a White/Green, Green interior.
I did mine in green with white stripes. I like it. I did it mostly so people won't think that I'm trying to pass it off as a real TA, as I'm not even claiming it as a clone either. And mine has the dark green deluxe interior also. The only problem is everyone hates me because I have a SBC in it. Heres my pics if you want to see

I like that! But it would be nicer without the SBC and Chevy Rallys.
I know. I like SBC thats all I know. I will be putting on the Rally II wheels when I get more money. I need to get them in 15X8 for the rear and 14X7 for the front to match the size wheels I have now.
How about silver with red stripes and a red interior??

Yes- I JUST saw it so it looks like I was beat to it already! A couple things I noticed is that the guy didn't paint the tail panel white, and he did kind of a "hybrid" interior where he has the blue interior with parchment seats, which I think looks very attractive on this car. All and all, an "incorrect" approach but very tasteful and attractive. We will see what Ebay bidders think now.

Now a question for those in the know- Is there a difference between Tyrol Blue which is a 67 color and Lucerne Blue which is a 701/2 color? Or are they the same color with differnt names? I imagine Cameo ivory and Polar White is the same as well. Any takers on this question?

I will ask again! There has to be ONE person here that would know!

I think Tyrol and Lucern are both coded PPG2213. But Lemans Blue is what you want on your TA clone. Unless you are cloning one of the first 100-150 TA's.. LOL There's been a LOT of debate on these colors and when they were used...
