Have just purchased a 68 conv and noticed extensive rust inside the sub frame where the body mount is located just below the front seats. Wondering if there is a way to clean the rust out of the inside of the sub frame. Sandblasting does not sound like a logical solution; are there people that specialize in this type of restoration?
I know it's a dumb question but everyone has to understand that I am completely anal-retentive and will settle for nothing less than perfection.
Acid dipping will completely remove all rust. It is essential that the dip be followed with a very thorough flush, then phosphate or e-coat or powdercoat depending on your needs.
Removal of the subframe and complete disassembly will be required, and this is the perfect opportunity to restore the body mount pads on the subframe, as well as replace the mount insulators.
