Perhaps I missed this if anyone had posted the info already, but...
I didn't pick up the mail yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised when I got it today to find the new issue of HPP in the mail, but better year, John Leland's Gorgeous, 67 Drop Top was featured and also one of the Cover images!
Great feature and Well, deserved! Congratulations!
Really! I still haven't gotten my issue yet, but if it was in there was going to post something. This story has been in the works for over a year so I was afraid of it falling through and didn't want to post something premature.
I can say that HPP and Chris Phillip are incredibly thorough. They had me checking rotor diameters, steering ratios and a whole bunch of details for accuracy. They really do try hard to be accurate. The neatest thing about the story (to me) is Chris's research through PHS to learn that my car was a first day of production zone car! A car Pontiac used for promotional purposes.
Thanks for posting this Brett - you really made my day!!!
On the cover they Title it an EFI Corner Carver and the article is "First of the Breed" Great shots (leaves you wanting to see more) and a great write up... Indeed you should be proud of your hard work and innate attention to detail! And the work the boys put into it too!
Thanks for sharing it with us along the way - Brett!
Congrats! I've always thought your car was one of the coolest FGFs I've seen on this site. I've enjoyed and benefited from your contributions here as well. Well deserved kudos!
Thank you all for the compliments. I still haven't seen the article though! I even thought about sneaking home at lunch today to catch the mailman. I guess I just have to be patient.
I got a call today from a firm that etches the stories onto aluminum and mounts them on wood for the handsome price of $240. I don't see myself getting it though.
Believe it or not, I have a laundry list of things to attend to on the car and this has me energized to get to them. I just need to get the wife's bathroom remodel done
Thanks all - Day 3 and counting before I get to see it!
8point: I talked to the author, Chris Phillip about that very thing and he pointed out a note on my billing history that shows the Ralley IIs were deleted.
With your car being a special order car that may be corect but for people to read that 67 400's came with Rally II's is wrong and leads to miss information.
No mag today. So far, board members west of me and east of me have gotten theirs?? Maybe my mailman is enjoying it and will pass it on when he's done?
Jim: In some respects I agree, but if you knew the effort these guys went through to be accurate you might cut them a little slack. I can't tell you how many receipts I dug out to get the right part number so I could get the right spec and phone calls I made to double check stuff for them. I would say the majority of my time and their time was spent on getting the facts right so I would cut them slack on this one error.
Just trying to help out the guy at a show with a 100% correct 67 400 and all the know it all's telling him his car is not right because it dosent have Rally II's. They know because they saw it in HPP mag.
Finally got my issue today and was pleasantly surprised to see the two page picture at the beginning of the article. The car is truer to the color in my signature than in the article (more purple looking there) but who am I to complain. I'm one of those people who can't believe it until I see it so it was great to finally see it. I was even beginning to check the news stands!
This also brings closure to a long saga. I had a lot of people tell me I'd never get this car back together and that I ought to sell the parts while I could. I'm pretty happy right now.
Man! FINALLY got my copy today. The Post Office has been messing with my magazine deliveries because they said I had not closed out my temp P.O. Box from my move.
ANYWAY, nice article and congrats!
And your story touched me personally. Ardmore, OK is 80 miles south of me and I have been down there almost once a week the past couple of months setting up a new health clinic. And I work in downtown OKC where your Zone Office was.
