Transmission blew last week ...so what a treat time to go ahead and take out the motor in order to get to all my leaky gaskets!
I have read helpful posts about lining the firewall on the interior with peal n seal roofing material. Is there anything recommended to put on the firewall..engine side...to reduce heat? Instead of this product, is there a spray on product to reduce heat? Any info appreciated.
Also, I was at auto zone and saw header insulation wrap to reduce heat (50 bucks). Any experience here with this product?
Best way to insulate is on the interior side. Header wrap is a temporary insulation, mostly used by the racing folk. A permanent solution is to have them ceramic coated.
Agreed, do it from the inside, that's the way the manufacture’s continue to engineer it. Rust protection on the outside, heat and sound insulation on the inside. You can order a replacement firewall pad if yours is missing or disintegrated.
Also, there are products like Dynomat that are made for reduincg sound and heat. I hear McMaster-Car has the same material, but for about 20% of the price of Dynomat.
Roofing material can work for the floor, but is considered the least affective in heat and sound control. Basically, it can melt and produce a smell if the temp is too high.
