Getting ready to order the LB manifolds from R.A.R.E. has anyone seen the "cast" color coating? Also, does this coating hold up and worth the additional cost? I have been waiting to order these things for over 6 years. Once I get these manifolds and get the engine back, next step red lines! This is exciting...
You will be pleased! Still can´t tell you how they will sound - still didn´t fire up my engine after a complete rebuilt and installing them several weeks ago... Only can assure you a very fine fit. Ordered the according nuts/bolts/gaskets from R.A.R.E., too. Probably you did the same...
Yes, I ordered everything from them. Didn't come yesterday, should be here today. After researching the L.B. manifolds it appears the ones from RARE are far superior than anyone elses. It just suprizes me that they there are enough people out there buying these things as I have never seen a set ANYWHERE. Can't wait!
All I can say is WOW! The L.B. look great. What quality and fast shipping too boot. They are not cheap, but I'd say they are worth it. I can't wait to see them on the car and to hear them fire up! Goodbye headers, goodbye exhaust leaks etc. With the gaskets, ceramic coating, flanges, install kit, oil filter adapter all total $850.00 including shipping.
I purchased one of the first pairs of these about 3 years ago. They are great. Make sure you install the oil filter adapter per their installation sheet. Also check the oil filter bolt length to ensure they do not bottom out. As for sound, they do not sound like headers. They give a nice tone more refined. I doubt you'll be unpleased! Enjoy.
Thanks for the info. I am about two weeks away from getting my engine back from the builder. I can not wait! I am in the process now of a complete front end rebuild right now while the motor is out. New brake lines etc. I am taking advantage of the motor being out hopefully for the last time...
I had Paul (really good guy!) from RARE ship me the one LBM that he had ready. The other one will be coming in a couple of weeks. I bought the silver ceramic coated ones. Look GREAT! I can't wait to install them. My engine is finished and was run on the run-up stand last night with some factory headers. I'm heading out of town for a couple of weeks, so when I get back the other LBM should be here and I'll be boltng them on. Next step is engine installation and then starting 'er up!
Anybody deal with TAMTAZ on Ebay? They offer a 69' TA hood made of f/g and I wonder if anyone here has a clue about how the product or srvc is?
Thanks!
Joe

I received my LBM from RARE but the gaskets were damaged. I'm set to install them on Saturday, but can't find a local supplier for the gaskets. RARE shipped the (www.flatoutgaskets.com) set.
Is there another gasket manufacturer someone can recommend? The last thing I want is a LEAK!
If I need to wait for RARE to ship another set I will. Thanks, Trevor
I ordered mine on Feb 6th and have only received part of the order. I'm not real impressed with the communication. They told me the other manifold was on B/O until Feb 19 and I have yet to hear anything more. I just emailed them today because I'm expecting at least an email saying they're still on B/O.
This is the longest I've waited for any part of my car so far.
Yah I must admit I'm a little disappointed as well. I placed my order on Nov 15th and finally received it on Feb 15th --- 90 days! Then, the gaskets were cut due to the way they were packed. (manifold laying on top of gasket set with no packing) Now it seems the wrong oil filter adapter was supplied.
After hearing such great things about RARE and my initial good impression, I'm really starting to wonder.
I'm just hoping once they're fired up I'll be as happy as everyone is saying. All of this will then seem minor.
March 10th and still no manifold. Paul claims that it will be done by the 15th and sent out on the 17th but I've heard that before. At this point I just hope to get my parts before I move this summer.
If you are doing long branch manifolds, go with Performance Years.
I finally received my RH side long branch manifold. I must say that the quality of these bad boys is top notch. Still frustrated about the wait time but now that they're on, it was worth the wait.
I would wait for R.A.R.E no matter what. They are opened up to 2-1/2" vs. 2-1/4" and overall quality is awesome. You CAN NOT go wrong with their products IMO...
I don't know maybe something went wrong with my exhaust system. I have a 69 convert. and ordered the whole exhaust system there. My mech. was nearly freaking out, because nothing matched. It took him 15 hours and me 1500 USD to install the exhaust system. That we understand us right, on top of the cost price of the exhaust.
I have the L.B. manifolds as well and those are great! But the exhaust .....
Been there, done that. R.A.R.E.´s one of the best companies I know concerning long branch manifolds and pulleys (have them all) but KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THEIR EXHAUSTS! I ordered one dual stainless exhaust system for my FGF, they (mistakenly?) sent the tailpipes for a second gen Bird and I had to argue for weeks to get another pair of tailpipes (that I once again paid full amount) because they didn´t believe it has been the wrong part although I sent a lot of pics.... Even the new ones have been WAY OFF and had to be cut and re-welded several times... Never again although now it looks fine... They even don´t know the difference of a center inlet/offcenter outlet and have sent the wrong Goerlich mufflers, too.
I bought a set of the 2 1/2 LB's a couple of years ago with the ceramic gray coating. My project has taken so long that they developed some surface rust from the humidity here in FL. I thought that was strange since they were ceramic coated, but I've been told they should clean up. RARE offered to re-coat them since they've apparently changed their coating process since I bought mine, but they were already bolted on and I didn't want to wait for a few more weeks to get the rest of the exhaust done. I have noticed that they are very close to the stock starter so I'm worried about hot start issues. I installed the solenoid heat shield, but I think I'm going to have to try adding some muffler wrap to the starter. Anyone have hot start problems with the long branch?
I've been running the LBMs for a year now, stock starter with stock sheild, no issues at all. I live very close to you, we should get together sometime...
If you have a good starter that hasn't been re-manufactured too many times you'll be fine. If the starter is marginal the heat from the LBM will let you know in quick order. I guess you'll just have to find out.
I couldn't seem to get a good starter even buying the high dollar new. So I put a mini-starter I got from Butler about 12 years (GPM I think)ago. Fit great with the LBM and never another problem even with low battery. FWIW
I had the same exact terrible experience installing Pypes exhaust too. They sent me 2nd gen tail pipes. I called and complained. EVENTUALLY they admitted they were sending 2nd gen tails. "But you can modify them to fit." hahaha thanks guys! I tossed them out and had some tailpipes bent by the shop.
So the conspiracy is they must use the same manufacturer? wow
I wonder if magnaflow exhaust is any better, it looks a lot different.
Received my upper steel ram air pan today from Warpath ( I already had their lower pan). This will replace my fiberglass one that is on the car now. I can tell you, the quality is absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was luck enough to get one with the tab to boot!!!!
You guys with the R.A.R.E. LB mani's, did any of you order their x-pipe exhaust system too(recently)? What about the ceramic coating? Basically I'm pretty certain I'm ordering these, but wanted to hear what you guys thought. I'm also leaning towards a "quiet" set of mufflers with the pypes electric cut outs on it.
