I just noticed that it looks like they didn't make 68 Firebirds early in the 68 model year at the LOS plant. What's the earliest 68 LOS car that anyone has or has seen? Or is there documentation on the LOS startup date?
The earliest one I've seen was at a local car show and it was an 04D car.
1967 -1968 The Firebird is built exclusively at the Lordstown, Ohio Assy Plant along with the Chevy Impala/Caprice. (same Assy Line from Fisher Body & Paint thru Final). Camaro is produced only at the Norwood, Ohio Plant.
March 1968 Firebird and Camaro production is expanded to the Van Nuys Assy Plant In California. Both share the line with the Chevy Impala/Caprice (same as Lordstown).
March 1969 Firebird is moved from Lordstown to Norwood, Ohio Assy Plant in Preparation for the Vega. Firebirds and Camaros are built on the same line here. Van Nuys continues to build F-Body (Firebird/Camaro) and B-Body (Chevy Impala/Caprice) all on the same assy line from Fisher Body & Paint through Trim, Chassis,Final. F-Body production for 1969 extends into Feb. 1970.
Despite the significantly different body sub-assy's, all were routed Through the same Assembly Stations from Framing, Welding, Paint and into Trim, Chassis, Final. All used common Overhead Carriers and Underbody Carriers with multiple locators for all variations.
