Manual drums all around, just installed new master & lines. I can get the fronts to bleed & work fine, but not the rears. I disconnected the main line for the rear at the m/c and can't get any fluid to come out of the rear reservior, even by pumping the pedal with no line installed. I bench bled it prior to install and it seemed to be OK.
Could I have a bad master or didn't get enough air out by bench bleeding? At this point do I need to buy or rent a vacuum bleed tool to further bleed the master on the car?
pull the master cylinder loose from the firewall by loosening the bolts several turns until you feel free space when moving the pedal.
If you preload the master cylinder the rear piston will not pump fluid.
Well, I loosened the nuts and also adjusted the push rod at the pedal inside to pull it in further, pumping the pedal a few times after each turn. It helped slightly, but I was only able to get a slight trickle out of the rear reservior still. Any other suggestions?
You may have to pull the master off and compare the pocket the push rod goes into with the old one. I bet they are different depths. In which case you will need to change push rod lengths or match up a cylider with the same pocket depth.
Did you by chance just convert from manual to power brakes? If so, you also need to move the rod fork to the other hole in the pedal.
Some pushrods are just too long. I am not sure if there are some incorrect rear pistons, or incorrect replacement pushrods, but something is up. Don't trust all the parts to fit properly.

You're right about that. Isn't there a valve in the master that cuts off front or rear if one side loses fluid? I remember having these stick when bleeding my brakes in my younger years.
