I apologize if this has been answered but I could not find it. Have a 400 and I wanted to put on some headers and Dougs, hooker, and hedman all said could not be done with a column shifter. The guy at ramairrestoration.com says he thinks it will work with the long branch manifold since these are factory repos. I thought I would ask on here if anyone knows if this will work. They might not have offered the option with a column shift. Apparently, column shift was pretty rare.
I have the RARE long branches on mine, with floor shift. They look like they are tucked in enough for a column shift linkage to clear, better than headers, but I'm not sure of the position of the headpipes. They seem to be in the same spot as with standard log exhaust manifolds. Hopefully someone with a column shift will respond.
Found one set of headers that will fit. Sandersons PF-1. It is because they are SHORT. Really short. Not sure if they would be any better than the logs that I have on there. Looks like I am going to try the long branch and see what happens. And every time I ask someone in the header business about it they say WOW, a column shifter, didnt know it existed...nope, I dont have anything that will fit. OR you need to change that to a floor shifter to make my headers fit. One or the other. ga
Think I will just get out of the column shift business. I can put in a B&M floor shifter for less than $200 and get good headers. Will still be less than the long branch and make more power (I think). I may just order some Doug's headers from Butler and some Pypes and redo the whole exhaust. I have log headers and 2" bent pipes (not mandrel) now and I dont think my engine can breathe. The question is, will I have to drill and top my 670 heads to put on headers? This may be answered somewhere else, I havent searched for it.
