...driving to work axcross the causeway listening to the usual morning news/talk radio program. The sports guy broke into the program stating that they just received a report that an airliner crashed into the Trade Center in NY. They weren't sure if it was an accident or...what? Then a few minutes later, they reported the second airliner, then all hell broke loose. I called my dad and told him to turn on the TV...and my brothers to turn on their radio at the shop.
It sure doesn't feel like it was 8 years ago.
I'm a hobbyist. Not a professional. Don't be hatin'!
Let's all take a moment to reflect on the horrendous loss of life and the bravery and commitment of the rescuers who lost their lives on that horrific day. We must never forget.
I was on my second day of a two week vacation in CA with my wife and 2YO daughter. Was woke out of a sound sleep by my in-laws. Spent most of the week watching TV.
Ended up spending the second week driving back in a rental car, visiting every playground between San Fran and Minneapolis.
I remember the rental car was fresh in from Maryland. Someone had just drove it from there. Rental rates were simply OUTRAGEOUS! They had a monopoly for a short time and took advantage of it.

I was on the way out the door to work when I saw the seond one hit. Knew right away when that second one hit what was up.
We voted as a coaching staff to still play our game that Friday. We felt it was our obligation to show that we would not have our lives affected by any terrorists.
a person will always remember the time and place they was at during that tragic event(attack) in our history. just like the geration before with the attack on pearl harbour. i had just came in from work off of grave yard shift. in a deep sleep , my wife watching the news on fox, came in woke me up- a plane has just crashed in wtc,i went back to sleep a short time after that she came back in another plane crashed in the other wtc. it did not hit me till i got up a couple of hours latter watching the news for my self. was a strange filling to look up in the sky and see no planes flying by, or jet trails. just empty sky.
It was an unreal day. I was working, in Amsterdam, it was in the afternoon, and a collegue told to come take a look at the tv. I was really busy, but took a quick look at CNN anyway. A lot of people in front of the tv, talking, speculating. Just as I was watching the second plain hit... Everybody got cold, first screaming, then silence, a crowd watching the screen...
Still unreal to see the footage.. RIP all who fell.
What I will NEVER forget were the images of Muslims in THIS country, cheering and dancing in the streets.
My brother in law who is a detective in a small Buffalo suburb (Tonanwanda) was called to a small conveinience store in our little town becuase the Arabic owners were chanting and screaming in the store, a customer called 9-1-1 as she was afraid. When he arrived they were in fact chanting and carrying on. He escorted a few customers from the store and they locked the door behind him.
Within 24 months the owners were arrested and since convicted of embezzlement & fraud. Turns out they were "donating money" from the store to a known terror cell that was ultimately named the Lackawana 6. The store is still empty to this day.
They WILL strike again, it's only a matter of time and they are patient people...
the problem is that they dont even realize they dont HAVE to strike...they will have majority in most of Europe in 20 yrs , majority HERE in 30 unless something radical is done....and after they have majority they will just VOTE themselves all power etc....they will take our country away using our way...
I was in seventh grade at the time and had no clue as to what the WTC was. I learned very quickly just what they were and what they meant to our country. Not to turn this to politics... but... it's also very startling that our nation has elected someone to lead our nation who has ties to terrorists.
Just came back from my second memorial ceremony (my veterans group provides a color detail and firing detail) for the victims of 9/11. Granted it was raining all day, but the turn out was pitiful. People just don't care as much or just can't be bothered, and this is a town where a lot of our first responders, friends and neighbors perished in the towers. I will never forget.
I was filling my gas tank on my way to work. I went to work and we went over to the Baskin Robbins two doors down to watch on their TV until I went and bought one as CNN and other news media were pretty much out of order.
We had a really bad scare as my brother-in-law was supposed to be there at the WTC on business that day, but missed his red-eye flight. It was a few hours before we knew he was okay as he was sitting on another plane at the terminal when they grounded all flights.

I was at work when a guy from the gas station next door came running in yelling to turn the Tv on...
I thought he was a robber high on crack so I shot him dead... thank God it was only Jawad "Rafi" Fakhir al Din the owner... or I might of been in big trouble, instead the town folk held a parade in my honor...
I worked in those towers until Jan. 2000 and then transferred to the Boston area. To this day I think about all of the people that I met and interacted with and wonder if they made it out. I didn't remember most of their names, but I can picture their faces. When I heard the news I felt helpless. Especially knowing that my co-workers whom most I consider friends were there that day. I have since transfered back to NYC and I pass the WTC site everyday. Everyday I make sure to say hello to my friends dad Stephen Morello, a guy that was the "cool dad" when I was in high school. Just the nicest guy in the world. And to John Rodak, the father of my Trans am love. When I was 13, he dated my sister and he drove a 78 Trans am. He would let me still in it all the time and take me for rides. He was like an older brother that I never had. I have tears in my eyes as I write this.... They were both such important people in my life as I was young. They were working at the WTC in the towers next to my office and I never knew it. How wonderful it would have been to see them. I pray that I will continue to hear their voices in my mind every morning/afternoon as I say hello and then good bye to them as I travel past that site.
God Bless Steve Morello and John Rodak, I will never forget you and will always honor your memory.
I was taxiing in a jet in Cincinnati when the first plane hit. The pilot told us that there was a national ground stop because a plane had just hit the world trade center in NY. By the time we returned to the gate, they told us the second tower was hit and it looked like terrorism. I rented a car from Avis at the normal rate and drove back to Green Bay - the long way! I avoided Chicago because I thought they would be an excellent target for another strike and I thought the highways would be crowded since nobody was flying. I drove two hours out of my way to go around.
Understanding and relating to Jihadists is an ignorant strategy. We need to send them to Allah instead.
