Today I started putting the original shifter back into the car but I ran into a problem. I have the clear plate with the gear indicator and the back plate that is blue on one side and black on the other. It's an auto 3 speed. Here's my questions.
1. Is the blue side or black side facing out?
2. What holds the black/ blue plate and clear plate in place?
Any pictures that anybody has would be very helpful.
Assuming you have a console auto three speed... it sounds like you need the light bulb and plate housing. I dont have a picture handy, but the blue/black plate only fits in the housing one way as it's notched.
I've got the sifter in and it functions properly. Now for another question.
On the newer cars where the shifter handle is there's either black brushes or an accordion type plastic piece that covers the slot so you can't see down. Does one go here on the Bird as well? Does anybody have one they want to get rid of? Part numbers would be helpful as well.
At the Turkey Rod Run I could have gotten a '68 console in MINT condition, even the rear screw bracket that is usually broken wasn't, along with the shifter, bulb housing, black plate and indicator lens for $300. Wish I did now....
