Hi I'm new to this site. I have a 69 Firebird that I am trying to restore and ran across something puzzling. I bought the car as a basket case with some parts missing. The pedal assembly for the clutch and brake was one of those parts. The bracket they mount to was still there with the clutch pedal safety switch still attached. I ordered a new set of pedals from Classic Industries but when I tried to install them, they didn't fit. My bracket had a small round hole for a bolt to run through but the pedals had a much larger shaft with a retaining clip. After getting no help from their Tech people, I searched online for pictures of the clutch bracket for 69 Firebirds and Camaros. Mine didn't look like the 69 style. I found GM switched to a different style bracket in 1970 and it looks like the one in my car but mine is date stamped 6-20-69. Could they have switched over sooner than the 70 model? Has anyone else ran across this? Brian
Model years change over in June/July. Plants typically shut down for 3 weeks to change over all the tooling for the new model years. I would bet that mid June date is the 70 model year.
Maybe try to order a 68, I would bet it fits fine.
I didn't know they started that early but that's probably the case. Someone may have added this bracket at a later date but it looked like it had been under there forever. I'll try to find the right one. Wish I'd known that before I spent all the effort sanding and painting it. Thanks
'69 production ran longer than usual, into December '69. The differences between '69 and '70 would make it less likely that too many parts crossed over.

Yellowbird The picture you have brought back memories. I bought a dark green 69 convertible in 73. Within two months it was hit by a hailstorm and beat up pretty good. I used the insurance money to replace the 350 hood with a 400, installed a new top, trunk lid, and painted it yellow. If yours had chrome reverse wheels with moon caps, it would look identical. Sold it to buy a 59 El Camino.
