BTW, JM, love your new forum header pic! awesome...will check it out further tonight!
thanks D,.. I haven't done much with the site except for flushing the outhouse every now and then.. been swamped with business and converting my company excel/vba stuff into web apps.. but I have been making a lil keyboard time for FGF..
Please feel free to send the pix to me as well, and some of the new Poncho too when you get the chance! I'm sure you'll post some here and to your online photo album... but just in case I thought I'd better ask...
Glad you got the new ride home and are happy with her!
First projects, hopefully this week will be, front and rear springs & shocks (boy does she sit low on those original springs). Then, set of Diamondback red lines (225/70/15). Hood tach, then front power disc brake conversion. Then, posi rear installation. Then, 4?? install along with my mighty M22. My engine will be done this week I guess, but may be a few more weeks before she goes in as ALL of the other stuff listed above must happen first...
We are very happy to have this car. After 10 years with the bird and 5 years with a 68 Camaro before that, it was a good opportunity for us to move into another Pontiac with a little more room...
I just can't wait to get those darn white letter tires off the car. One of my all time pet peeves, white letters on cars that are too old to have them...
My plan was to paint our bird a 04 GM indigo blue but after looking at your pics I am leaning more towards the light blue metalic. Very nice. Looks period correct also.
The blue on our car is the original Montreux Blue, same as used on FGF. I absolutely love the color. It is much lighter in the direct light than it looks in most pictures...
Oh yea, nice! That looks close to the '66 GTO conv clone I owned for a short time. And Vikki had a '66 Sprint that was a dead ringer. There's all kinds of nice things to upgrade for the A bodies, without changing the stock appearance.
Thanks! The projects have officially begun. Rear springs went in today. The new springs brought the car up 2-1/4" so it looks much better. The springs in the car were the originals, unreal.
Driver's seat bottom cover gets put on tomorrow. Red lines are on their way, four wheel disc conv. has been ordered, four speed stuff is being rounded up, the 400 is almost ready (having some head work done today on the #62's). So the plan is in motion...
LOL I've decided to go for a port & polish and port matching to the intake as well. Should maybe pick up a pony or two. With 5 new 400's being built in our little Pontiac Tribe, I need all the edge I can get...
So where'd you end up ordering the brake kit from? And dare I ask how much a port and polish on the heads cost? Seems like everybody quote about $600 around here.
That is the 4-wheel power disc brake conv. kit that I ordered. Supposedly it is 100% COMPLETE kit with anything and everything you need. We shall see...
As for the port & polish, it will end up about 1k. However, that does include a valve job and a few supposed "tricks". Plus, I had an old 702 Q-jet and an extra 68 Pontiac intake that I am trading in for some labor credit etc. So all in all it won't actually end up costing me much out of pocket. I figured this is my last chance to build a killer Pontiac so I am pulling out all the stops on this one.
Hopefully everything will come out as expected, time will tell...
This car should be a real sleeper from it's looks anyway. It will not sound like a sleeper as I am ordering the short branch manifolds for the H.O. cars from 67 alond with a 2-1/2" mandrel bent exhaust. I am not sure which mufflers I will use, I want something that truly sounds MEAN & NASTY! I had Flowmasters 40 series on the Bird for 10 years and always thought they were a bit quite, so this time I want something that just barks! Anyone have suggestions on mufflers?
I am shooting for 450RWHP on the dyno when she is done. I was pushing 405RWHP with the same motor in the Bird, but also had a couple of issues back then ie: electrical breakup and also a fuel delivery issue. Torque was very close to 500 and that motor always pulled VERY strong! Can't wait to get all of this done on the LeMans and then enjoy the ole girl for the summer. I'll most likely loose my license by mid-late summer due to my eyes. So, if I can get in some miles before then I will be happy!
You should be able to go to some of the manufacturers websites to get some good sound clips?
I've heard good things about Magnaflow in the last couple years. I may be switching to them for my bird as they have a shorter muffler that will fit better when I run up and over and out the back... (last owner left it at turndowns before the axle)
Wow!! That does look like a pretty complete kit. The only thinbg I don't see in the pic is some dust shields for the rears. That's an awesome price. I think that's what Classic Ind. gets for the rear kit only from SSBC.
I think those round race pro muffs are pretty rowdy. Almost everybody I have heard of that bought them changed their minds after because they were too loud. Tailpipes seem to make a big difference as to how loud muffs are though.
Just received an E-m from Diamond Back, red lines will be here on Monday. When I ordered them the other day they said at least two weeks as they build them after they have been ordered. Wow, that's fast! I can not wait to get them on the car!!!!!!
Actually I left the Flowmasters on the body so they are gone. I definately want something load and nasty!
You can have my Goerlich XLerators. It's not how loud they are, it's the resonance they generate at certain speeds/RPMs. Annoying to say the least. But they do have a nice tone.
