What do you guys/gals think of this for mounting gauges. I am searching for ideas and I'm not sure if I want to put holes into my console to support something like this.
It distorys your factory aperance but one of my parts cars had one similar to this and they are way better than the 3 gague cluster that you see in most.
I thought about using that but with the 69 camaro console that it was made for since I went with an Gennie 2004r shifter anyway. A purist might cringe, but 90% of the people wouldn't know any better.
One of the reasons I bought the 67 LeMans was because the first thing I looked at was inside, under the dash. I had told my friend Mike that if there were a set of three gauges screwed to the bottom of the dash or console with 3" drywall screws w/ all the wiring hanging down and visable, that I would turn around and walk away from the car. LOL Just one of those pet peeves. But hey, your name is on the title, do as you wish!
I agree if your car is stock go with the rally set-up. I had that setup on my car as an automatic, although it did look good, it took alot away from the originality. I like the 4th gauge as being a clock. didn't stand out like a sore thumb like the original.

I will have to give it more thought. I am definitely going to use aftermarket gauges, so mounting them as to not take away from the interior appearance will be a head scratcher.
Tom, Child #2 is due in June. Lunch may be in order.
I guess that set-up only would work with the automatic console. Like someone said earlier, If you have a hacked up console already, go nuts. Personaly, I think it looks OK.
I have one of those in my basement. It won't fit on a Firebird console without a lot of work.
I actually did this and it was some work but it was not an original console and wasn't perfect to start so I gave it a shot. I will take pictures and post them.
I went with a set of the stacked rally gauges with in dash tach. Looks nice but the water temp gauge doesn't work very well. I've tried several different senders and it's still 30 degrees off. I use it for show and have a more accurate cluster in the glove compartment, along with voltage and trans temp.
