Hey. I have a 67 firebird convertible and it has the standard AM radio. I would really like the hook up an ipod or atleast a CD/FM radio. When the car was bought the previous owner had a hackjob stereo speakers mounted ontop of the driveshaft column with a little radio unit but this was removed when we got the car partially restored. I see theres some units availible that completely replace the AM radio with a new unit with an mp3 compatible unit. But im on the wall about if i want to replace the original. Also im not sure if the single dash speaker would be enough to make it worth it. I dont know if there are any other alternatives like units that could mount under the dash on the passenger side that could either hook up to the main speaker or have its own speakers wired in (im not sure where). Anyways im sorry if im not making sense but id like to be able to cruise to some tunes this summer that arent radio disney am 640. Thanks so much guys. Heres some pics of the car.
In my car I have the stock speaker in the dash , PLUS 2 on ea kick panel....a 1" dia and a 4" diameter speaker...some people also add rear speakers...I have no used those in my vert.
Custom auto sound has a replacement dash stereo speaker for the dash. They have one for an AC and a Non-Ac car. I put one in my wife's 69 vert and added the kickpanel speakers as well. I put the 1 inch tweeters in the winshield post and I get plenty of cruisin' sound out of it. Even at highway speeds with the top down. Key point is to replace the dash speaker to optimize the volume and not overdrive your system or the other speakers.
Or you can just get one of those IPod adapter things that transmits over FM radio. -- They work pretty well. - That's what I would do if I had an original radio.
thanks guys. I dont need it really loud and it doesnt have to sound amazing so i think im gonna go with the redirad thing. Any info on what size speaker i need to replace the stock one?
