I have a 1968 Firebird 350 convertible and I am thinking about getting the engine rebuilt I have a budget of $4,500 to $5,500. My question is how much it typically costs to rebuild an engine and if I am going to restore the car is this a good first project. I am going to take the car to a local (I live in Pittsburgh) guy who rebuilds engine and he said the range is between $4,500 and $7,500 depending on how custom the job is. Any insight or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Nashville 68 firebird and I both had our engines done by S&S engines, 7 year 70,000 mile warranty. We were both very happy. Mine cost 1,800. INCLUDING shipping. that was a few years ago. If interested I can hook you up with a phone #. Search letter to my engine builder by Nashville 68 (John)
Thanks for everyones comments I called another shop and got an estimate of $2,500. At that price I think I will also have enough for a new header, exhaust and I will convert the car to disc brakes.
