doing my usual call ahead to a residence for my 10:00 appointment this morning, my elderly customers finally answers his cell phone and says he has fallen in the study and can't get up!
in what seems like forever, I finally make it to the house while talking to him on the phone the entire time, he guides to which bedroom window his wife is sleeping in.. I beat on it until she is up.. now I'm standing in her back yard yelling thru the window her husband is laying on the floor in the study..
she disappears.. I tell her husband on the phone she is coming, hang up and wait at the front door.. so she lets us in, says she doesn't need any help, so we do our thing and about a half hour later finish and call out to her who comes out of the kitchen with a plate of food..
I give her the run down on us, ask about her husband and she then wants to know if we will help her pick him up off the floor??
we go into the study, he is still on the floor, his leg is bleeding through his jeans, can't move and in pain!!
I call an ambulance!!
wow, unbelievable.. she left him lay there.. and these are wealthy, retired folks in a very nice part of town!
sad part is thats my 2nd customer who needed an ambulance, about 20 years ago another guy fell and broke his ankle on the front porch, but his family and kids was there and by the time I found everyone the paramedics had arrived..
Some pretty strange ones out there for sure...but Vicki's right, old people with forms of dementia get some strange ideas....my mother in law is in that space now for sure....
When I lived in Sweden I went to the gas stations wash rack to clean the car in the winter... I seemed to be the only one there except I could hear a radio in the other end , probably 10 bays away... suddenly I hear a faint "help, help, help"...I go looking. in the last stall I fine a Peageot with a man standing ,leaning over the pass. fender, hood up, radio blaring. I walk around...he has his left thumb stuck in under the wiper mechanism ,really stuck there...
find out he had been working on the wipers as they wouldnt move, and had radio on, so he had ignition on...working from the pass side and drivers door open. As he got the wipers to work ,the arm slip over his thumb, clamped it and got stuck...he couldnt reach the ignition to turn it off...and couldnt reach any tools!
I had to turn off ignition ,then release the nut on the wiper motors arm...he was fine.
But what a stupid thing to do...and he was there by himself..Had I not decided to wash my car he could have been there for hours , maybe all day!....LOL
