Some of you might know I am building a 69 TA Clone. Need a little help. Can someone tell me if the 4 speed cars had a console option or did all 4 speed TA's have the shifter right out of the floor? and is it a hurst shifter? Also did all have the stacked guage cluster? All help is appreciated. oh also is the dash behind the dash pad blue also or black?

dont know , but just about all "clones" I`ve seen have a console.... wish I could remember ,since I`ve seen at least 4 real TAs...and of course no picture of the insides.
Trying to make this car as close as possible to the real deal. I know they sell the kits for auto or stick, as the hole openings are different, but I'm wondering what is actually correct? Console or out of the floor/rug.I can't seem to find any specs on that.

I found a floor console, minus the shifter stuff, and a complete set of NOS blue deluxe comfortweave seat covers. PM me a price. I know shipping from Canada is a bear price wise too. But please PM me the info. Thank You.

I personally love the 1969 console. The burlwood pattern is very cool. But just an FYI, the 4-speed console was not standard on the 69 Trans Am, it had to be ordered. Same goes for the Rally II wheels.
But I would imagine that 99% of the Trans Am's built had Rally II's and a console.
Really thought I'd get more replies and help about 69 Trans AMs on this site it being a first gen site. Gus 68 your set up is what I need but honestly a bit more than I can afford. I have an entire car to build, need to try and keep the cost down as much as possible.

"more replies" Not many people own 69 TA's. And others own 3 or 4. Like one guy from here. Had 4 at one time. Down to 2 now. Plus a 70 TA RAIV 4 spd. Talk about a pig...
I was hoping more had a better knowledge of these cars than I do, maybe knew someone who knew someone or built a clone knowing the specs. Mine won't be nut and bolt perfect I can't afford that but I like detail and want to try and make this one atleast as nice as my 69 is.

"clone" Thats the key word. You want a console, get one. But can wait till you can afford one. If i where to do a TA, it would be a stipped down one to make it look like a factory race car. You're probly the opposite, and like lots of options.
I'm NOT! a "race" kind of enthusiast, as far as building a car. I like my show cars. To each his or her own! But I do love drag racing, and have many friends who do that. I enjoy the thrill of finding the parts needed for the restoration, my 69 took 13 years to find everything.

MA, my friend David here built a TA "clone" ... or actually a "TA my way" as he calls it painted a dk blue and silver, but with all the other TA suff....Ill see if I can find a few pics...but his is a console car...
I have no problem with anyone doing their "own thing" I happen to like my cars the way they were "back in the day".I'm not planning on spending $85,000 though to do that. I'd love to have that console shifter set up Gus68 has, it's just a bit to much for me considering I need almost everything to complete this project.

I too would like to do a TA "Spirit" some day. Right now I don't have the car nor the dough to do it. I will just keep the console just in case I need it in the future.
Saw that one. Well if you decide to perhaps include the shipping on yours please let me know. Thanks again for all the info you've offered me i truly appreciate it!!

MaryAnn, I guess we didn't reply to some of your other questions...
- Regarding the color of the dash behind the dash pad, if it's a blue interior, it would be blue, if it's a black interior, it's black. - Most 4-speed 69 Trans Am's had a console. I'm not sure of the breakdown of console verses no-console, but if you can get the console, I would get it. Suffice to say that "nearly all" had a console. - Stacked gauges were an option. - Hood tach was not available on the 1969 Trans Am. - The Trans Am hood is now repro'd in steel. Fit is supposed to be "ok" (like most of the Taiwanese produced parts). The leading edge of the hood is a slightly different shape than the factory unit. - If you truly want to go for the full clone effect, the front fenders extractors are available, fit are finish are sub par. The extractors are functional, so you'll need to find real Trans Am fenders (probably not necessary), or cut a couple holes in your fender. You can simply put the extractors on without cutting the holes, they just won't be functional. - Rear spoiler and decals are all available repro. Quality of rear spoiler is sub par at best, will take a lot of finishing to make it look decent. - The Ram Air setup is all available repro, in steel, but expensive. - If you're looking for details in making a clone, the front fenders where the "Firebird" emblem is, will have to have the two holes filled in. That's where the Trans Am decals go, there was no Firebird script used on the fenders of Trans Am's. - Stripe dimensions and measurements are available, shown in the Firebird Assembly manual. I can post pages if you like. - Color of the stripes and tail panel are Tyrol Blue.
Please let me know if you need anything more specific, and I can provide pics.
My 67 4spd wasnt ordered with a console, but did trade a 68 for one. After sitting it in the car, not all that excited about it. Looks faster without one, but at least have a place to sit my beer...
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I feel like I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe. 1968 400 convertible (Scarlet) 1976 T/A - 455 LE (No Burt) 1976 T/A New baby, starting full restoration. 1968 350 - 4 speed 'vert - 400 clone (the Beast!) 1968 350 convertible - Wife's car now- 400 clone (Aleutian Blue) (Blue Angel) 2008 Durango - DD 2008 GXP - New one from NH is AWESOME! 2017 Durango Citadel - Modern is nice! HEMI is amazing! 1998 Silverado Z71 - Father-daughter project 1968 400 coupe - R/A clone (Blue Pearl) (sold) 1967 326 convertible - Sold 1980 T/A SE Bandit - Sold
I bet it would "fit" a '75 Ford station wagon too.

I had seen that spoiler last night and was about to bid when I read that fitting a 67 thru 69 thing. Knowing that can't be true, I don't wanna be stuck with something that doesn't truely fit my 69 and I just don't trust that it came off a 69 trans am. But I would love to get one of those spoilers and a trunk lid
The 69 Trans Am wing will fit a Toyota Camry, but it's not correct. The seller is just trying to widen his audience, similar to how most of the repro parts houses that produce 67-69 Camaro parts say, "Also fits 67-69 Firebird".
I've seen a 69 T/A wing on a 68 Bird, and the wing tips hang over the quarter panels about 1". Looks like the wing was for a different car (which it was). I'm not sure if they make it any more, but they used to make a narrower Trans Am wing for the 67/68 Birds.
The repro 69 wing hasn't improved in quality since it was introduced in the late 1970's. Same mold, same quality problems. Original 69 Trans Am wings can be identified quite easily because they are 3-piece units. Just look under the wing, and if the area where the pedestals meet the wing are smooth, it's a repro. If it looks like the pedestals were separate, and bonded to the wing, it's an original. 69-71 Judge wings are similar.
You asked a lot of questions, and a lot of it really comes down to whether you want a 100% correct clone or to work with what you have.
First off, the interior color choices are blue, parchment or black. Blue dash pad comes with a blue dash face. Parchment with black dash and carpet. Options were custom trim or standard.
Steering wheel: depends on whether you are doing an early or late clone. Woodgrain wheel or Formula style with first gen emblem.
Console: optional, and blue if it was ordered with blue interior, black if with parchment or black.
I have a lot of pics of original T/As but even "original" cars often have reinterpretation over the past 41 years.
Correct --- 1969 Trans Am's were available with white, blue, or black interiors. There was one special ordered with a red interior, and one special ordered with a green interior.
I will be doing the entire interior in blue, headliner dash pad door panels, seats, seat belts, floor mats, carpet, everything. Wood wheel. NO stacked gauges, I hear they go for around $2200.00 I'll most likely get much of it from Performance Years as they are 15 minutes from me, and I've been a customer forever!! LOL. My 69 is on his 44' parts trailer. I saw Classic industries has an entire interior package. I like the look of the console verses shifter through the floor. This won't be a concourse points car, but as close as I can get appearance wise.
