I saw some traffic on this last week but not sure from what source it came. Bottom line is the answer is YES...if you live in a four-season area like me in Tennessee.
I cut out my scoops (made them functional) the night they arrived, and welded a simple metal mesh from LOWES into the openings to keep the big bugs out.
Painted the scoops and mesh with April Gold and all is well.
They really catch your eye, because you can see the big chrome air pan through the mesh, and they definitely let COOL air in while driving, and HOT air out when stuck in traffic.

Hey Nash, They look nice! How/what did you use to weld on those pot metal scoops? (I opened mine up also, and have a piece of stainless steel screen I was thinking of putting in the opening but I'm not sure how to attach it.)

That would work too. The liquid metal would hold it just fine with a little extra hardener added. The stainless steel mesh I used is the heavy stuff sold at Lowes for gutter covers. Very inexpensive and perfect for this project.
