...trip to Estes Park is just around the corner. Haven't heard much chatter about it. Who's getting ready/excited? We are going up a couple days earlier to do some sight-seeing around Colo Springs area. Gonna be a great trip!
We are planning on going. My Firebird was first there in 1973 and again a time or two in the 70's. I still remember that first trip up the Big Thompson Canyon with the top down and seeing the canyon side above us. If the car makes the trip, I will repeat that Big Thompson run.
I just talked with wifey again tonight...she still says DO IT...I am going to talk to Brett again....still in...whoohoo...big cruise with no AC and a convert lol thru Utah....
strange enough ,seems that more people from the L list are attending than people from the forum....Im going... I know Kelly and wife and then Carl M and wife from Houston are cruising up a different route than the rest of the HALFers, but it looks like we all will be there a day or two early...think we`ll have 5 to 7 cars going together..maybe more..forgot the count
ok....832-309-0863....Ill try to remember to bring some Shiners...wonder if we can get them cooled there? refr in the rooms? or maybe bring Ice chest...
I figure on a 2 day drive from here....1100 miles one way
most likely the only time I will attend, for travel reasons...I`m most of the time in Europe at this time ,but didnt want to miss this "historical first"....
Well, just a few short days away....we will be heading out early tomorrow for Colo Springs for some r & r, then on to Estes Friday morning. Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable journey to Colo. and look forward to hooking up with those attending....btw, anyone heard of an approximate 'bird count going?
only one night away...car is packed, packing my stuff now...getting up at 4.30, meeting the 'crew' at 5.30 for a brkfst...then off at 6.00...we`ll stay in Amarillo tomorrow night after driving thru northwest Texas which is scheduled to be 100-102 F....may even have to put the top up for shade...but long sleeves, thin shirt...no ac and a cap..."Bull Frog" 45 on hands and face...Shiner in the trunk. Ready to go.
Got bird ,will travel!
No idea on bird count...seems to be dropping by the day...we should have 10 though ,from HALF (9)and WAPA (1)....edit: 8 FGFs and one TA, Carl R just got note his car isnt ready after his tranny swap.
I'm getting in kind of late on this thread. I was in Estes Park Jul 21-26. The family and I were playing miniture golf one evening at a fun center on Highway 34 along the Big Thompson river on the east side of town, just before you enter the Thompson canyon. As we were playing I saw a nice looking "69 convertible cruise by. The sighting made me miss my "67 at home. Maybe you guys will bump into this guy. It would quite a surprise for him to run into such a group like you're going to have. Have fun and be safe.
BTW There was road construction on Trail Ridge Road up on the tundra when we were there. Hope it doesn't hold you up too much.
